Been itching to make this post for weeks and months but now Aura’s Selvaria Bles DD project is finally complete. The idea has been with me ever since her twin sister, Sora began wearing the Nagisa-ish military uniform and became confident of the dealer’s ability to take on this commission after sampling one of their latest works. The cost was somewhere around 40,000 yen, almost equivalent to the price of 1 dollfie dream, but a small price to pay to have my own (or possibly the only?) DD Selvaria Bles. I’ve always loved the character from the anime and the game and felt Aura would be the perfect model. The production began late September and the clothes arrived at the beginning of this month. The boots however got delayed and took another 2 weeks, just in time for Dollpa 28. I was supposed to have much more time for this post but will publish it anyways before anyone else does (Not sure if anyone would understand but I just couldn’t bear the thought of other people uploading pics of her before me after all this wait…^^;). Will probably beef this post up later with more pics and maybe even the blue flame effects using photoshop when I have more time. Might even start creating the spear and shield of Valkyria when 3D printers become more feasible – $2000 is still a bit too much. Anyways…like I said it’s a short post but pretty much covers all the features of this costume.

Situated in the quiet alley of Ikebukuro Tokyo is a small photostudio called Kingyo Studio where me and 12 other doll owners got together to do some group photoshoot. Participants were Baradanji-san, Monokok-san, yumemi-san, ento-san, arab-san, fino-san, ken-san, pandadamepo-san, Ruise-san, mat-san, yukkco-san and mujip-san. I went with the same’ol Sora but others came with their new daughters some DD and even SD/cast-dolls which we seldom see in our little group. The studio consisted of 2 floors – one with a bar-like atmosphere and the other a mix-n-match of all kinds of theme. As with most studios, it was cheaper if we rented the place during the night so like the one back in July, we took photos throughout the night from 11pm~7am. Besides the cheap price, costing to 2,300 yen per person (30,000 yen total), the place was also pretty resourceful with plethora of props, a convenience store nearby to get some nourishments, lighting equipments and even doll-sized beds and sofas in courtesy of the studio owner. The only setback was the dim lighting on both floors and the rather small room space. I myself did okay I guess and got the most out of the time by remembering to bring my own reflector and not falling dead asleep on the bed like last time^^;
Some diary-ish post on my otaku room and a couple of other things – It’s been almost 2 months since I started working from home and one thing I came to notice was how quiet the house was during the day and how long or maybe short that day was – you wake up in your room, work in your room, eat in your room, sleep in your room and the cycle goes on. Being the indoor type, I never minded environments like this and rather welcomed it. No need to ride the super-congested trains in the morning too which was great. However as the days passed, it’s come to my attention that it’s not always easy keeping your concentration up and working efficiently when you’re in a room with no windows and stuck with the same scenery. It’s not much but to alleviate some of the ongoing situation, I’ve spruced up my workspace over the few weeks by adding more lively figures, plants and some gadgets. Thought I lost my passion for figures after the dolls (Sora, Aura and Xera) came but it’s still there alright :3 Continue reading ‘Workspace 机周り 2012/11/5′
Just another one of my short random posts where I’ll go over the minor modifications, clothes that I’ve yet to introduce and poses that I haven’t tried yet. I’ve noticed this blog has been getting a steady amount of viewers even though there are no new posts and want to apologize for those frequenters first of all. Life is anything but easy recently, sometimes working until midnight to meet the deadline and also searching for other opportunities on the side. Missed loads of doll meet that takes place at night during the weekdays and on weekdays but I guess this is part of life.
Anyhow, first up is the Nagisa-Sora outfit that’s been going under a constant modification in the last half-year or so. Not all changes were obvious but these adjustments do add up bit by bit. This time around, I’ve added an extra golden lines on the collar, chest pocket, skirt and shoes with golden ribbons that resembled the original material the seamstress used for this outfit. The uniform that Nagisa from PS02 and Ikaruga from Senran Kagura wore featured various streaks of gold throughout so I figured I increase them on Sora’s as well. Picking the right place where it wouldn’t look out-of-place was a difficult one because the original design of this uniform was very simplistic. Not much creases and folds on the clothes to work with.
Belated as usual but here are some pics taken at Doll Show 35 display table last Sunday. Because of what little time and space we had, I’ve only had the chance of photographing a few of the dolls on this floor and none from the dealer’s floor above. For those interested in a more thorough report, you might want to take a look at Linz-san’s doll/figure blog. His event reports are most detailed and usually with dealer’s names as well. Getting back to the subject, there weren’t much doll stuff that caught my interest this time save for one set of MDD-sized clothing but was again surprised by how many doll owners gathered at our table. Must’ve been at least 20 dolls and the numbers seem to be growing after each event^^; Also getting harder to keep track of the doll’s names and their owners. Many thanks to Ento-san who got here first and secured the table for us.
Whilst lurking around the Star Wars part of Youtube at home with my daughters, I was suddenly reminded of the lightsaber chopsticks by Kotobukiya that could coincidentally (?) be held by 1/3 scale dolls. As a fan, I’ve always wanted to add them to my girl’s collection of weapons and they’re considerately cheaper (940 yen) than most doll weapons you’d find in the market. Further lurking then led me to this tutorial video that explained how you can easily photoshop boring looking lightsaber toys close to a real one. The process is quite simple and you can do this by first creating a new screen layer, select the blade part with polygonal lasso tool or linear tool, fill the selected area with white, duplicate it into 3-4 layers, add Gaussian blur with different radius to each layer, merge those layers into one, adjust the color balance to your desired lightsaber’s color and add a few other effects. Despite not having much time for creative posts like I did before, I took the time to go to Yodobashi Camera Yokohama to retrieve the chopsticks, take photos and edited the photo anyways. It might’ve been because I was a bit stressed from life and needed a break, but I mostly blame the force for guiding me into making this post ;3 This post will be short though since the last post had 60-something pictures in total.
This post contain series of picture taken during Avian studio photoshoot, Volks Akihabara group photoshoot and Culture Japan Night Tokyo Summer 2012. Been meaning to make a post for each of these sets but just didn’t have time to get around to all of them. The first few pictures are the most recent ones taken at home during this weekend where I had Aura trying out her latest weaponry, Saber Extra’s Aestus Estus along with her new clothing made by Twilight Moon. Costing a bit over 18000 yen (final bid), this rather appealing clothing came with a stylish hat, hair ribbon, skirt, choker, stocking with garter-belt and parts that covered her bust and arms. In the last set, you’ll see her wearing the SD13 sized new white one piece dress by Nine9 Style I picked up at Tokyo Dollism a few weeks ago. This one included a one piece dress and a slip dress and was only 4000 yen. 2 new dresses last month for Aura alone but probably only one will become one of her default dress. And as the title suggests, Aura was my main model for rest of the photosets since the other girls had been getting all the attention in the past few posts. I basically love all my daughters but she is probably my favorite when it comes to studio photoshoots. Something about her character or atmosphere that makes the posing come to me more naturally. Anyways…loads of pictures up ahead (‘A`)
Been a while but here’s the review photos of Sora in her new Racing Miku 2011 ver cosplay outfit I bought at Wonder Festival 2012 Summer. The outfit was made by a dealer called Cherry Milk and was sold at around 15000 yen. The set comes with a clear decorated plastic hair tie, a choker, body suit, long gloves, knee-socks and was surprised to know that it even has shoes. Would’ve been perfect if it included the head set as well but me including a few others weren’t bothered by it too much or maybe not at all. Despite there being 15 stocks in total for this event, the outfit sold out a lot quicker than expected and the one Sora is wearing now happens to be the very last one ^^; Talk about close call lol.Cherry Milk is a relatively popular circle that makes a Miku related outfit every once in a while like the Snow Miku outfit or Default Miku outfit Sora had on a year ago and I think the quality is getting better and better. If they do make one, I’ll certainly go for their Racing Miku 2012 outfit as well. Anyways, without further ado, here’s Racing Sora-Miku 2011~
Kinda felt like I’ve been neglecting Xera as of late – like not bringing her to the studio photoshoot, not making a post about her for over a month…etc – so figured it’s time I put the spotlight on her for a change and take her out. Looking at her wardrobes though, everything seemed a bit too stuffy and the weather we’re having here in Japan would likely give her a heat stoke if she went out ^^; Given that gothic lolita fashion or dress with good breathability are hard to come by, casual fashion seemed like a good option. Haven’t been very partial to casual clothing due to my low coordination skills and the lack of decent clothing in the market but with some luck, I was able to come up with a new image for Xera after spending several tens of minuteｓ rummaging through clothes at the Akihabara Azone store.
Newly bought items were the black punk-style skirt which was 2100 yen-ish and the white blouse (?) 1500 yen-ish. The hair bow, choker, thigh socks, and shoes are something from her previous dress and the red glasses and bag you’ve seen Sora use them a while ago. Took her to Volks Yokohama for a short photo session but before we move on, here’s a few photos of Xera’s new look (‘ω`)
So I recently found this shop in Akihabara called “Bukiya” that sells 1/3 sized swords and decided to let Sora play around with them a little. It’s only 1500 yen each and is considerately cheaper than the ones sold at doll events which, despite being almost identical, fetch up to 5000-7000 yen. Quality is pretty nice too since it has detailed engravings, doesn’t have that cheap plasticky look most has, comes with a sheath and fits DD hands perfectly. Well, maybe not too practical though because of its weight but nothing too major to keep me from buying 5 of them XD Was planning on buying more of them to replicate the situation I had in mind if only the store had more than 4 types in stock. These “Denix” sword series had lots of other variations like Excalibur so might look for them someplace else later on when I have more money. Btw, this “Bukiya” store itself is a quite an interesting place to visit if you’re a fan of 1/1 scale imitation sword (like me) and happen to be around Akihabara. Would love to start collecting them again and swing them like crazy in the backyard like I did back in the states when I was a wee lad. Good times…:3
